Ministry of Interior, Emirati Association for Lawyers and Legal discuss enhancing cooperation and partnership

The Ministry of Interior and the Emirati Association for Lawyers and Legal Consultants discussed ways of enhancing cooperation and partnership at a workshop organized by the General Directorate of Strategy and Performance Development on Wednesday.
The workshop was opened by Brigadier Hassan Rashid Al Shamesi, director of Criminal Investigation Department, the ministry of interior who affirmed the police leadership's commitment to upgrade police and security work to the best international levels.
He pointed out that the workshop highlights the ministry's keenness to enhance cooperation and partnership with various sectors of the community to achieve the leadership aspirations towards sustainability and keeping abreast of new developments.
Deputy Director of Human Rights Department, the ministry of interior, Brigadier Mohammed Al Shehhi stressed that the ministry cares for human rights while ensuring that the rules of the penal law are applied in alignment with the international legislation and standards related with the rights of the accused, the witnesses, and the victims during the evidence collection stages where police are available.

Chairman of the Emirati Association for Lawyers and Legal Consultants Zayed Sa'eed Al Shamesi underscored keenness to enhancing joint cooperation with the ministry of interior, pointing out that this workshop is the first of its kind for exchange of views and discussion of suggestions with the ministry of interior, to the best interests of the two sides.

Three themes have been discussed at the workshop: the first one was on the Code of Criminal Procedure and the possibilities to amend and create criminal legislation that would match the new developments in areas of combating money laundering and enhancing child protection.

The second theme covered the best practices in the international human rights standards and their connection with the daily work of judicial officers. The third theme has discussed joint actions to come up with adequate solutions for all the obstacles facing the police and security work.

The workshop was attended by a number of police officers and members of the Emirati Association for Lawyers and Legal Consultants.
