Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jaleel Al Ansari opened at the Al Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi "Smoke Detector is Your Home Protector" exhibition.
Held as part of the continuous awareness effort carried by the civil defense agencies, the exhibition showcases the latest fire prevention equipment including smoke detectors. Brochures on general safety instructions were also been distributed at the exhibition.
"Statistics revealed that 66% of the fires in 2016 have occurred in homes, said Al Ansari, adding that installation of smoke detectors will help increase survival chances by 50 %, and failure to install them will increase death chances by four times.
This indicates that some people's preventive awareness should be enhanced, and safety instructions should be followed specially at homes, he further added.
"Human losses might increase due to inhalation of smoke, which increases the need for installing home safety systems and making sure they are regularly maintained", Al Ansari said.
"Smoke detectors are successful devices to alert residents to evacuate when a fire breaks out", he pointed out.
Opening of the exhibition was attended by a number of police officers, section heads, and several strategic partners in firefighting.
