This year's theme of the GCC Traffic Week, "your life is a trust" , is intended to address the dangers of traffic accidents and their impacts, stressed Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak bin Amir, deputy commander general of Sharjah police.
"It should not be merely a slogan that we raise during the traffic week celebrations; we should abide by the message included therein", he said as he opened the 33rd GCC Traffic Week on Monday at the Al Dhaid Cultural Center in the Center Region.
He urged the public to concentrate while driving, not to use mobile phone, and to drive as per the posted speed limit. He also advised All motorist and pedestrians to abide by traffic rules to preserve their safety and that of others.

Ali Saif Al Nadas, director of community police department, Colonel Ahmed bin Darweesh, director of central region police department, as well as representatives of the government departments, companies, sponsoring bodies, and a crowd of students.
After recitation of verses of the holy Quran, Colonel bin Darweesh gave an address in which he welcomed the audience. He said, "No doubt that traffic accidents are blamed for the loss of many lives and material resources, apart from their psychological and social impacts. So it is incumbent upon us to focus on the causes before the results in order to avoid these huge losses", he further said.
The Al Dhaid's schools children participated in the event and gave the oath of allegiance to the nation and its ruler. A drawing workshop was also organized during the event. The program also included a poem delivered by poet Ali Al Washeem, an awareness documentary presented by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, a music show by Al Bataiyeh School for girls, and a poem by Mahra Al Mazrouie.
