UAE chairs most prestigious international police agency

In recognition of the vital role of the UAE all over the world, and its prestigious position in the international arena, thanks to the wisdom and leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and his brothers HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the State and Ruler of Dubai, and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the UAE has reached a new international achievement, following the election of Maj. Gen. Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior, as the coming President of Interpol. The UAE is now at the helm of this international organization working in the fields of security and policing and will do its best to make the world a safer place.

Al Raisi was elected at the 89th General Assembly Meeting of the Interpol, held in Istanbul, Turkey, in the presence of representatives of all member states. The 3 day meeting discussed a number of global security issues and ways to step up international cooperation in combating crime, as well as election of key leadership positions. Previously a delegate of the Executive Committee in Asia, Al Raisi was elected for a four-year term as the President in charge of the international organization. The General Assembly also elected seven members of the Executive Committee.

Al Raisi: Recognition of UAE’s good reputation

In his speech after the voting was made, Maj. Gen. Dr. Al Raisi was quoted as saying This victory is a recognition of the UAE's good reputation thanks to the vision of its judicious leadership. It is the culmination of the country’s dedicated work and continuous global efforts in enhancing international action and humanitarian response at the times of crises. The UAE has always been striving to establish international peace and security and confirm that dialogue among peoples of the world should be the tool of communication.

I will do everything in my power, he added to ensure that Interpol remains an organization that meets the needs of its member states and the needs of the international community in the fight against crime, as in the end, we share the same objectives and work together for a safer world.

Al Raisi stated that he was honored to have been elected President of Interpol and felt extremely proud to be responsible for law enforcement by leading the most prominent international police agency. Al Raisi also pledged to work tirelessly to step up cooperation, enhance technology and achieve sustainable financing for Interpol, in support of the common objectives of the agency towards safer societies all over the world.

Continuous Emirati support for international work

The United Arab Emirates has been one of the largest supporters of INTERPOL's international efforts since it joined the organization in 1997 by hosting the organization's conferences, the events of the 87th session of the General Assembly in Dubai and its periodic meetings, and strengthening its efforts to combat crime, training programs and joint cross-border operations.


AL RAISI continuous efforts towards leadership and excellence

Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi has been the Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior in the UAE since 2015. He holds a PhD in Security from London Metropolitan University and a Master’s in Innovative Management from Coventry University in the United Kingdom, and a Police Management Diploma from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science From Otterbein College in America, he also chairs a number of sports, cultural and community clubs, national sports federations, and chairs the Board of Trustees of the American University in the Emirates.

Al Raisi has received a large number of local, regional and international honors, medals, and awards, including the Rescue Medal, the Commander's Medal, the Medal of Career Excellence, the National Medal of Honor from the Republic of Italy, the Federal Personality Award, the Royal Military Medal from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the International Stevie Award, and the Middle East Award for Distinguished Government Leaders.
