UAE joins world countries in marking International Day Against Drug

The United Arab Emirates joins the countries of the world in the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 every year. This year’s day comew under the slogan (Drugs a painful end).

The UAE and its judicious leadership had an insight in understanding the danger of drugs and the harms caused by the spread of this scourge on all health, social, economic, security and other levels. For this reason, the state spared no effort to protect the citizens against this deadly danger.

HE Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Chairman of the National Anti-Narcotics Council, stressed that the problem of drug trafficking is one of the most serious security challenges facing the drug control authorities across the world.

He added that despite all the difficulties and challenges, we have determination to turn these challenges into opportunities by developing and raising the capabilities of work teams and drug control personnel across the UAE in discovering new innovative criminal patterns, and the methods that drug dealers and traffickers can resort to as an alternative to the prevailing and known methods.

Brig. Gen. Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director General of Federal Anti-Narcotics at the Ministry of Interior and Vice Chairman of the Anti-Narcotics Council, said that the UAE's efforts to combat drugs are in line with the national anti-drug strategy.

He added that they take into account this issue, which poses a grave danger to societies and threatens the countries of the world. Al Suwaidi said that the state has strived continuously to update the laws and legislation related to drug control.

Col. Dr. Rashid Al Dakhri, Chairman of the Supreme National Committee for Drug Prevention, said that the strategy of drug prevention in the Ministry of Interior seeks to create a society aware of the dangers of narcotics and psychotropic substances, empower state institutions and members of society and build their capabilities and skills to prevent narcotics and psychotropic substances according to a scientific methodology.

It aims to raise the level of societal awareness of the dangers of drugs, develop personal skills and moral values ​​that enhance happiness and positivity, and enhance the role of the family to contribute to the prevention of narcotics.
