Al Shafar Welcomes OHCHR Delegation

Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Shafar, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior met on Tuesday with a delegation from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), led by Mr. Mohamed Al Nsour, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division, OHCHR, currently visiting the UAE. The visit coincides with the UAE Ministry of Interior’s celebrations to mark the International Human Rights Day. The meeting was attended by Brigadier Mohammed Ali Al Shehhi, Head of Human Rights Department, along with members of the OHCHR delegation and officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Interior.

This visit also comes organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to see the efforts of a number of relevant authorities in the field of promoting and protecting human rights, holding workshops and lectures and conducting field meetings with specialists in this field.

During the meeting, a number of issues of common concern were discussed, enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the delegation was briefed on the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in this field.

Al-Shafar affirmed the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to enhance its cooperation with the various United Nations human rights bodies, committees and mechanisms in coordination with the relevant authorities in the country.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier Muhammad Ali Al-Shehhi, Director of the Human Rights Department, members of the delegation of the High Commissioner and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and a number of officers at the Ministry
